About the project

At their meeting on Tuesday 21 November, our Hub Committee set out their draft aims and ambitions for the next four years in their proposed Vision and Strategy for West Devon 2024-2028. It has been developed in response to known challenges, such as the lack of truly affordable housing for local people and the climate and biodiversity crisis. &nbsp; The strategy being considered is by no means all that we will do to support our communities. It is aimed as a broad framework, with a number of focus areas which also include supporting the economy, preserving the heritage of the Borough and providing good quality council services. &nbsp; The document itself sets out broad ambitions under a number of priority action areas. For each we set out an ambition statement, a small number of aims and some initial actions for the next 12 months.&nbsp; The responses to the consultation will help us refine these and provide us with more insight to develop detailed delivery plans for the strategy alongside our budget for 2024/25.

<h3>What happens next?</h3>In preparing our strategy, we have taken into account the views and comments from residents shared with our Councillors during the local election. This gave all councillors first hand accounts of challenges faced in our communities, so we hope that the strategy reflects those and sets out a positive direction for us. It&rsquo;s also really important to us that we continue to listen to our communities and adapt our plans where required &ndash; this really is just the start of ongoing conversations with you. Our formal consultation phase on the strategy itself opened on Monday 27 November 2023 and will run until Sunday 14 January 2024. &nbsp;Have we got the balance right? What have we missed?
